Proposing a new blogging area for Tech IT Easy
November 11, 2008
My stance is, like a year ago (1, 2, 3), still that software is a tired & over-covered space both in terms of blogging and in terms of starting a business. No doubt there is a purpose to all of it—I’m frequently surprised about how existing software is copied by others and still improved drastically, just by filling in some missing features. But there is also a lot of blogging going on in this space, which makes software-journalism commodity-journalism.
Brainstorming with myself a little before about the tech-space, I split it into three segments: software, hardware, and “superware.” The latter is what I propose for a new area of coverage on Tech IT Easy.
Superware or super-tech is world-changing technology, like space-technology, medicine, biotech, alternative fuels, etc. Having listened to loads of VCs speak these last months, looking at industry-trends, and the current state of our planet, I think that is where we are going. And frankly, writing about software/hardware bores me. I propose that I write something about these new technologies at least once a month—I’ll try more frequent posts, but that area is pretty research-intensive. I’ll still continue to write about entrepreneurship & related stuff, of course.
If you want to chime in on this topic with some ideas (e.g. exciting new developments in super-tech), feel free to drop a comment or send me a mail.

Count me in your superware venues Vince!

Vincent, this makes me feel like doing a serie on vaporware i.e trendy techs that does not serve any purpose other than bringing loads of money to consultants.
About hardware and software, the complexity and the area covered are increasing dramatically. The reason is : the internet. The more collaboration on this topic, the faster they improve, the more complex they become and the more we need blogs and collaborative internet resources to harness the complexity.

Well, that’s why Tech IT Easy is a group-blog Cecil! So that you can write about vaporware vs. the internet, and I can write about superware.
Btw. I disagree with you. Innovations like the internet came forth from radical innovation and I see most of the things happening online as incremental innovation (I also wrote about that before )—it’s innovation, still, but often focussed on microscopic areas and, well, incremental improvements over the status quo. Agree that complexity-management is a big gap in the market now, as are graphical user-interfaces (the best way to manage information is through a good interface), but most (mainstream) people already solve that problem by just accepting the status quo and pushing the off-button.
I’m probably exaggerating a little, there are interesting things happening in hard- and software, which I’ll write about when I see them, but I, personally, feel a little numb about it for the moment, like I’ve seen it all before.
