Just ordered a Macbook Pro

Apple notebook1) I’m studying ICT so I needed a laptop I really enjoyed watching and discovering.

2) I haven’t had a Mac for more than a decade. I used to learn Basic on my father’s Apple IIc 15 years ago, to steal my mother’s Powerbook 170 to write short stories about 12 years ago, to play MIDI files on a Macintosh Classic about a decade ago, & to run educative Arborescence software as well as Sim City on one of the first Power PC machines perhaps 9 years ago. Great memories. And since Mac hardware have recently been very appealing, I just couldn’t resist.

3) It happened that I had available cash. Well, not anymore. I had saved money to purchase a second-hand car, something I didn’t do eventually.

4) I received excellent pieces of advice on my blog. Many thanks to all those who contributed.

Apple Store “track your orders” says I should receive my Macbook Pro (17′ glossy, 2Gbytes RAM, 120 Gbytes HD) on September 28th 2006. I read many negative feedbacks (here’s one on Rodrigo Sepulveda’s blog, a French entrepreneur blogging in English) on Apple’s logistics, supposedly worse than Dell’s for instance. I’ll keep you posted on the actual final delivery date and performance of the computer.

Update 21st September 2006: the delivery date was just postponed to October 2nd 2006.

    welcome aboard :-)

Yeah, i concur with the bad reviews. Nothing is as frustrating as tracking the progress of that shiny new mac on a website.. that really only posts progress after the package has long past by. I did find that just counting on the delivery date, probably provided with your purchase, was pretty accurate.

From (still) the G4 camp, I also welcome you aboard.

  3. one more apple addict…

some user feedback would be great. ;-)

There was a site… which calculated which carrier Apple used and the “real” tracking number. Apple’s tracking page sucks.

2gb might be a bit overshooting, but I’m not complaining (they might drain your battery faster, though).

Little googling (screw you google, it’s a verb) later, http://www.apecode.com/appletrack/

Now you can really say, I wanted a car but but bought this huge laptop instead :D

    Vince> good one!

Kari> Your link almost deserves a post in itself. Unfortunately, the tracking doesn’t work with my 8-digits order number, and keeps asking for 10 (I added 2 zeros, and it still doesn’t work).

François-Albert> Will provide some feedback, don’t worry about that.

  8. Kari says:

yeah, the apecode’s tracker is for Kühne+Nagel, but there’s forum where you might find how to track your order from the real carrier.

I’ve just ordered an iMac 20″ intel core 2 duo to use it as “main computer” for everyone in my place. This will be my very first mac , I hope that stuff will match my expectations. Keep us inform about your MacBookPro delivery and first impression.

Don’t worry Jean-Laurent, I’ll make sure I keep you posted.
